Make Up Artistry: Day 1

Oh dear! The Universe must've heard my cries because for the longest time I have been wanting to practice art. Ever since my lovely sister decided to throw away my paint brushes and my painting paraphernalia some long years ago, it has been so hard to get back to it.

The only reasonable art things I can get my hands on are make up! And drug store too! I admit, my little faerie hands would like to have dust over some fine Dior Foundation and Make Up For Ever palettes but, oh my! I could never find use for those and will I ever get coins to splurge?

Not anymore! *giggles* I have finally decided to get formal education and I cannot wait to get started! Painting everyone's faces, turning you all into beautiful creatures of the realms. I can only imagine all the yummy things I can finally get my hands on because I now have an excuse! I am a Make Up Artiste (hahahaha), I am saving that for the future.

First, I must learn.

Day 1 of training is applying the basics: Foundation, contour and eyebrows!

I know base makeup is probably the most important part of the craft, without a good one the skin, the face and the product all fall apart. Aside from knowing the skin tone, blending it to perfection, using the correctors, my top lessons after the first day is that contouring is HARD. Lest you want your canvas looking like a face slapped with rulers, you ought to be a bit more careful, making sure it looks like shadow instead of a carve. Therefore, my artistic sense tells me that contours should be a bit more gray than pure brown because then it looks like a bronzer; whereas a shadow is a bit on the gray side.

Ehem, I'm no expert here, but that's what I think at least.

I enrolled in Maquillage Professionnel, they provide all the training materials and tools. Which is really cool, but also for the lack of available shades, one needs to improvise!

So here is the face of the my newfound friend:

And here she is with faerie dusts, looking awake and (eeeeep!) bright!:

Okay, maybe that's not the best foundation shade for her because really there isn't a lot of shade and there's only so much that my faerie dusts can do. Also, there is still a little redness under the nose so that is something I need to work on. But she had pimple marks on the upper lip and on the cheek I was able to fix with a corrector.

Yeah, I definitely need to work on my contouring and still a long way to go from pro. Hahaha! I cannot wait to work on the next face!
